Phedi Khola Hydropower Project (3500 kW) has been planned as a Run-of-River (RoR) type scheme. Project lies in the South West part of of Dolpa district. The project layout is on the right side of the river, the project is situated in Mudkechula Gaunpalika, ward no. 4 (Previously Narku VDC) in Dolpa district of Nepal. Geographically, the project area is located in between longitudes 82° 34’ 14" E to 82° 36’ 16"E and 29° 03’ 23” N to 29° 04’17" N. The project location map is shown in Figure 2-1 below.
Proposed Headworks of the project is located about 100m below the d/s of confluence of kholsi and Phedi Khola. Headworks is proposed just below the upper boundary of the project. The present location of headworks lies in intact rock exposure. Flow of Phedi khola is planned to divert at intake for the power generation of the proposed project through the pressure pipe to the forebay and to the surface powerhouse, located at about 300 m upstream of Phedi Khola and Jagadulla river confluence which lies at an elevation of about 1910 m amsl. All the project components are located on the right bank of the Phedi khola. After the power production, water from the powerhouse is discharged into the Phedi khola through a cut canal.
The project site is situated about 509 km far from Kathmandu and 240 km road from Nepalgunj via Kohalpur, Chhinchu, Rakam, Kalanga (Jajarkot) and Triveni. The headworks area can be accessed via a-12 km pedestrian trail from Triveni. Alternatively, it is accessible by about 6 hrs drive along Jumla–Dunai rugged road with additional 4 hrs on foot along 10 km of additional foot trail to reach Powerhouse area in Ila.
As per the preliminary study, the installed capacity of the project is estimated 3.5 MW and yields annual 21.702989 GWh sellable energy. Two Numbers of generating units are proposed. The design Discharge of Project is 1.22 Cubic Meter per second at 40 % PoE and net head of the project is 331.26 meter. Construction period of the Project with development period is approximately 2.5 Years.
